Doug Nussmeier who has an exceptional resume as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach has emerged as a candidate for the Miami football program sources told Football Scoop. Nussmeier who played five seasons in the NFL and one in the Canadian Football League began his coaching career in 2001.

Nussmeier spent his final season as a player with the B.C. Lions of the CFL in 2000 and transitioned to their QB coach in 2001. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal was on the Alabama staff with Nussmeier in 2013. Nussmeier was the Alabama OC and QB coach in 2012 and 2013.

Football Scoop stated that Nussmeier is “a candidate of deep interest for Miami.” Per Football Scoop Cristobal was the Alabama associate head coach, running game coordinator and offensive line coach in 2013. Nussmeier has extensive experience as OC and QB coach in college and the NFL.

After his inaugural season as the Lions’ QB coach, Nussmeier moved to Ottawa for the same position with the Renegades. Nussmeier began his foray as a college coach mentoring QBs at Michigan State. The St. Louis Rams hired Nussmeier for his first position in the NFL as QB coach for the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Nussmeier earned his first coordinator position in 2008 at Fresno State also coaching QBs. After one season in Fresno, Nussmeier left for the same position at Washington. Nussmeier has been the OC and QB coach at Alabama, Michigan and Florida. Nussmeier coached with the Dallas Cowboys from 2018-22.

Nussmier was the Cowboys’ tight ends coach in 2018 and 2019 and QB coach the last two seasons. Cristobal coached TEs at Rutgers in 2001 and 2002 and Miami in 2004 and 2005. With similar backgrounds and working together on the Alabama staff, Nussmeier would make sense for Cristobal and Miami.

The Miami  football program will have tough competition for Nussmeier. Football Scoop reported that Cristobal and Nussmier spoke this week. In addition to Miami, Football Scoop reported that Nussmeier is expected to interview with the Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be their OC.
