The Miami football program received a projection from 247 Sports summarized by Grant Hughes with their 2023 win total. Miami enters the 2023 season after finishing a disappointing 5-7 in 2022. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal undoubtedly was extremely disappointed in his team’s performance in his inaugural Miami season.

Miami is projected to return 15 starters in 2023. The Hurricanes signed the seventh-best freshmen class and added the 11th-best group of transfers for the 2023 season to its roster. Miami will have diminished expectations in 2023 after being picked to win the ACC Coastal Division in 2022 and finishing in fifth place.

After finishing 2-2 in their non-conference games, Miami did not build enough of a cushion and Miami failed to qualify for a bowl game for the first time since 2007. The top 10 recruiting class and group of transfers Miami added will hopefully offset the 18 transfers the Hurricanes lost since the end of the 2022 season.

Several of the newcomers to the Miami football program will compete for starting positions in 2023. Among the transfers to watch are cornerback Davonte Brown, linebacker Francisco Mauigoa and offensive linemen Javion Cohen and Matthew Lee. Freshmen OL Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola will also compete to start.

"MIAMI HURRICANESProjected win total: 8Miami fell short of expectations under first-year head coach Mario Cristobal in 2022, finishing with its first losing record since 2007 (5-7). Despite Miami’s poor finish, Cristobal welcomes the return of quarterback Tyler Van Dyke and a stacked recruiting class. During the Early Signing Period in December,Miami received national letters of intent from 25 of its 26 commitments in a 2023 class that ranks No. 4 in the nation. The 2023 Miami recruiting class is the highest signed by Cristobal during his 12-year coaching career and is poised to give the Hurricanes their first top-5 finish in the recruiting rankings since 2008."

After five-star, CB Cormani McClain flipped to Colorado the 2023 Miami class dropped to seventh nationally from Hughes listing the Hurricanes fourth. Van Dyke needs more playmakers. Miami added depth at running back in the 2023 class, but the Hurricanes still need help with an outside wide receiver.

Next. Davonte Brown more important than you think ACC transfer. dark

Cristobal is still searching for an offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receiver coaches. After Josh Gattis was the OC and WR coach last season expect the new Miami OC to tutor QBs. The new coaches will be hired before spring practice begins on March 4. Expect Miami to add more transfers in May.
