The Miami basketball team will attempt to build on their two-game winning streak and stay undefeated at home when they host Duke on Monday night. Miami enters Monday night tied for fourth place in the ACC with North Carolina State. The Hurricanes and Wolfpack split the season series.

Duke is a half-game behind in sixth place. Miami needs a win over Duke to even the season series after losing at Cameron Indoor Stadium last month. Duke defeated North Carolina on Saturday. Miami earned a critical win at first-place Clemson on Saturday. Duke is another critical game for Miami in the ACC race.

The top four teams in the ACC receive byes in the ACC Tournament. Miami is right in the middle of that race. The win over Clemson on Saturday and in December over Virginia are huge tiebreakers the Hurricanes own. Miami needs a big and boisterous crowd at the Watsco Center on Monday night.

Miami assistant coach Bill Courtney credited the fans for helping the Hurricanes win at home last Tuesday versus Virginia Tech. Duke will be the biggest game at the Watsco Center this season. The Blue Devils are still getting acclimated to Jon Scheyer in his first season as the Blue Devils’ head coach.

The Miami basketball team has to close the game better than they did in the loss last month at Duke. Miami went nearly three minutes without scoring until the final few seconds and multiple turnovers down the stretch led to the loss at Duke. Miami needs a better game offensively from Norchad Omier on Monday night.

Omier scored nine points on 3-9 from the floor but had 14 rebounds last month at Duke. The Duke length was able to pose matchup problems for Omier. Isaiah Wong also had a poor game with seven points on 2-8 from the floor while battling an illness. Jordan Miller and Nijel Pack were the only Hurricanes in double figures.

Spread:  Duke +3.5 Miami -3.5  Total: 145.5 Moneyline: Duke (+140) Miami (-170)

Duke is 9-14 this season versus the point spread while Miami is 14-9. The Blue Devils are 3-9 versus the spread in the ACC with Miami 10-3. It should be another tight game between Miami and Duke as the three games played in the last two seasons have been. At home, Miami should cover the 3.5 points.

The point spread is a tougher number to gauge on Monday night. When Duke and Miami played last month, the under came in easily. In the ACC Tournament last year Duke won 80-76 which would significantly eclipse the over. Miami has been exceptional offensive at home. Lean towards the over.

After hosting Duke, Miami will be off until Saturday. Louisville who is tied for last place in the ACC and is 3-19 overall comes to the Watsco Center on Saturday. This is the first week since December that Miami will have consecutive home games. Miami finishes the season with five of its last seven at home beginning Monday.
