The 2023 Miami football class finished 10th in Blue Chip Ratio according to On3. Blue Chip Ratio was created by 247 Sports to examine the number of signees in a class or on a roster that is made up of four and five-star players. Miami signed two five-star prospects and 13 four-stars out of 25 prospects in the 2023 class.

Four-star defensive back Antione Jackson asked out of his National Letter of Intent earlier this week. Without Jackson, the Miami Blue Chip Ratio would drop to 58.3 percent. That would drop the 2023 Miami football class out of the top 10. The critical number in each class is to have a Blue Chip Ratio of at least 50 percent.

The vast majority of College Football Playoff teams since it was instituted for the 2014 season have had a Blue Chip Ratio of over 50 percent. A more concerning issue with losing Jackson in the 2023 class is the depth for Miami at DB. Miami lost eight DBs following Hurricanes’ 2023 season.

Miami tied for 10th with Oregon and Penn State. Oregon signed one five-star prospect and 17 four-stars out of 30 recruits. Penn State was actually slightly ahead at 60.8 percent with no five-stars and 14 four-star signees. By comparison Ohio State with the leader with 19 four-star signees in a 20-prospect class.

"T10. Miami (60%)2 five-stars | 13 four-stars | 25 total recruitsTop Commit: Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, No. 12 in On3 ConsensusSummary: Most will remember the Hurricanes’ 2023 cycle for the Cormani McClain saga and his eventual flip to Colorado. Despite that and all of the on-the-field struggles Mario Cristobal’s group endured in 2022, Miami edged out Clemson for the top-ranked ACC class and finished just outside of a top-5 class nationally. The Hurricanes also signed the future of their offensive line with Mauigoa and five-star offensive tackle Samson Okunlola."

Mauigoa and Okunlola have the potential to be starters for Miami in 2022. Miami secured blue chip players at every position except for safety and an outside wide receiver. The Hurricanes return elite starting safeties Kamren Kinchens who was an All-American in 2022 and James Williams who will both be juniors in 2023.

In addition to Mauigoa and Okunlola, Miami signed defensive tackle Rueben Bain, running back Mark Fletcher and tight end Riley Williams who are ranked in the top 10 at their positions in the 2023 class. Cristobal makes recruiting a priority and is known for being a relentless recruiter.
