Miami Hurricanes News: Lance Guidry analysis, WBB hosts Florida State
The Miami Hurricanes hiring of Lance Guidry as the new defensive coordinator has received a lot of analysis and praise since reports of his addition were made public yesterday. The Miami women’s basketball team will seek to continue its push toward an NCAA Tournament berth when they host Florida State on Thursday night.
No official statement has been made public yet, but Guidry has changed his Twitter profile to reflect his hire by Miami and posted a picture of his wife flashing the U sign. Guidry let a top-10 defense at Marshall in 2022. Local and national media have commented on Guidry and the success he led at Marshall.
The Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team is currently listed as one of the last four teams in the NCAA Tournament by Charlie Creme of ESPN. Miami is currently projected as a 12 seed in the Greenville Regional versus Nebraska in the First Four. The winner would play UCLA in Austin, Texas in the first round.
Miami enters the game on Thursday night 15-8 overall and 8-4 in the ACC. The Hurricanes have won eight of their last 10 games. Florida State defeated Miami 92-85 in Tallahassee in December. Florida State is 20-5 overall and 9-3 in the ACC one game behind first-place Duke. A win over Florida State would be huge for Miami.
David Lake of Inside the U reported on Wednesday that Miami cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and tight end Will Mallory have been selected to participate in the NFL Combine later this month in Indianapolis. Mallory and Stevenson both played in the Senior Bowl last weekend in Mobile, Alabama.
Lake also outlined Guidry should focus on improving run defense, third down defense and explosive touchdowns allowed to improve the Miami defense. With Guidry hired as defensive coordinator, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal can turn his attention to hiring a new offensive coordinator.
John Brice of Football Scoop reported that Toledo head coach Jason Candle is considering a verbal offer from Miami. Candle and former college and NFL offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier have reportedly interviewed for the position with Miami. Expect Cristobal to be methodical hiring the new offensive coordinator.
