3 Miami basketball players score 20 beating Louisville
Nijel Pack scored 22 and Norhcad Omier and Isaiah Wong had 21 as the Miami basketball team beat Louisville 93-85. El Ellis led all scorers with a career-high 33 points. Miami had an incredibly efficient offensive performance shooting 53.4 percent from the floor, 8-20 on three-point attempts and making 23-27 free throws.
Miami head coach Jim Larranaga cannot be happy with the defensive performance of the Miami basketball team. Louisville shot 57.9 percent, made 10-23 three-point attempts and 9-11 from the free throw line. Miami scored the first 10 points of the game, but Louisville persisted and the Hurricanes led 42-41 at halftime.
Miami extended the halftime lead to 11 five minutes into the second half. Louisville cut the deficit to five three times in the second half but was not able to get closer. A 20-4 Miami edge in points off turnovers played a huge difference in the game. Miami had a 10-0 points off of turnovers edge in the second half.
Pack scored 14, Wong 11 and Omier 10 in the second half. Pack, Omier and Wong combined to shoot 22-33 in the win. Omier led Miami with seven rebounds. Miami forced 12 Louisville turnovers and committed six. Miami also had a 17 to four advantage in fast break points.
Despite the relatively close margin, Miami was able to maintain the lead for 36:15. The game was tied for 0:43 with only two lead changes. Louisville lead for 3:02. Jordan Miller was held to 10 points on 4-11 shooting, but added six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Miller always fills up the stat sheet for Miami.
The Hurricanes could have been caught looking ahead. Coming off of a dominant 81-59 win over Duke and playing at North Carolina on Monday night, Miami was sluggish versus Louisville. Miami improved to 20-5 overall and 11-4 in the ACC with the win. Miami has back to back 20 win seasons for the first time since 2018.
The 2017-18 season ended a four year string of 20 win seasons for Miami. Louisville continues its worst season in program history. The Cardinals are 3-22 and 1-13 in the ACC. Miami did not win its 20th game last season until February 26. The Hurricanes and Tar Heels tipoff at 7 PM Monday night on ESPN.
