The Miami Hurricanes basketball team earned a tougher-than-it-needed-to-be 93-85 win over Louisville on Saturday night at the Watsco Center. Earlier on Saturday Football Scoop reported that former Houston head coach Major Applewhite has emerged as a candidate for Miami offensive coordinator.

The Miami basketball team began the game on Saturday night versus Louisville scoring the first 10 points of the game. Louisville played tough and Miami entered halftime with a 42-41 advantage. Miami extended the lead to 11 five minutes into the second half. Louisville rallied to cut the deficit to five three times.

Nijel Pack scored 22 and Norhad Omier and Isaiah Wong each had 21 for Miami. El Ellis led all scorers with a career-high 33 points after he scored seven when Miami defeated Louisville in December. Miami could have been caught looking ahead after a big win over Duke and at North Carolina ahead on Monday night.

Applewhite has been an FBS offensive coordinator since 2006. Applewhite has been the OC at South Alabama since 2021. Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and Applewhite have a shared history of working for Nick Saban at Alabama. Applewhite had two stints working for Saban.

The Miami women’s basketball team has a huge game on Sunday afternoon when they play at Duke. Miami travels to Durham with nine wins in its last 11 games. Miami is coming off an 86-82 comeback win over Florida State on Thursday night. The Hurricanes have five games remaining before the ACC Tournament.

Ahead of Super Bowl Sunday the Miami football program will extend its streak of the most appearances by alums in the game. According to Erudera, Miami football alums have made 124 Super Bowl appearances by 88 players. USC has the second most Super Bowl appearances with 123 from 84 players.

Chiefs’ safety Deon Bush will be the primary player to appear on Sunday. Bush is a backup on Kansas City. Former Miami offensive tackle Jarrid Williams is on the Philadelphia Eagles roster. Williams has yet to appear in an NFL game. Bush had 11 tackles and one pass defended playing in all 16 games for the Chiefs this season.
