The Miami basketball program continued rising in the national rankings following wins over Duke and Louisville last week. Miami moved from 19th to 15th in the AP Top 25 and from 20th to 13th in the USA Today Coaches poll. Miami plays at North Carolina on Monday night and hosts Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon.
The Miami basketball team received 693 points in the AP Top 25. Miami is 24 points behind number 14 Indiana. The Hurricanes are 51 points ahead of number 16 Xavier. In the USA Today Coaches Poll Miami received 260 points. Miami is six points ahead of number 14 Kansas State and eight behind 13th ranked Gonzaga.
Miami remains the second-highest-ranked team in the ACC. Virginia is ranked seventh/sixth and North Carolina State is 23rd/22nd. Miami defeated Virginia in their lone meeting this season and split the season series with N.C. State. Virginia and Pittsburgh lead the ACC with 11-3 records. Miami is a half-game behind at 11-4.
Pittsburgh is at Miami in the last game of the regular season on March 4. The ACC regular season title race is tight. Clemson is a half-game behind Miami at 10-4. North Carolina State is 10-5. The Miami bassketball team is projected to finish 14-6 in the ACC per Team Rankings. After hosting Wake Forest Miami plays at Virginia Tech on February 21 and then hosts Florida State and Pittsburgh to finish the regular season. Closing strong down the stretch will help Miami improve its NCAA Tournament resume.
None of the teams remaining on the Miami regular season schedule are ranked. Pittsburgh is among others receiving votes. Most metrics and oddsmakers project Miami as an underdog on Monday night at North Carolina and at Virginia Tech next week. Miami needs to keep winning to improve its NCAA Tournament resume.
This week is the highest Miami has been ranked in at this point Feburary since the Hurricanes were 11th in the polls the same week in 2016. Miami is currently 34th in the more important NCAA Net Ratings. Playing at North Carolina on Monday is another opportunity earn a critical quadrant one win.
