The Miami basketball team will attempt to move into a virtual first-place tie with Pittsburgh and Virginia when they play at North Carolina on Monday night. Miami is 20-5 overall and 11-4 in the ACC. Pittsburgh and Virginia are 11-3. Virginia plays at Louisville on Tuesday night and Pittsburgh hosts Boston College.

Miami enters the game at North Carolina with a four-game winning streak. North Carolina ended a three-game losing streak with a 91-71 win over Clemson on Saturday. Miami is in an excellent position to earn a double bye in the ACC Tournament awarded to the top four teams in the conference.

Miami and North Carolina will play on Monday night for the only time in the 2022-23 regular season. North Carolina has struggled all season but might have turned their season around with the dominant win over Clemson. The eight-point win for Miami over 3-22 Louisville was far closer than the 20.5-point spread projected.

Miami head coach Jim Larranaga improved to 8-9 all-time with the Hurricanes’ win versus Duke last week. With an 8-11 record all-time versus North Carolina, Larranaga has been one of the most successful head coaches versus Duke and North Carolina. Monday will be a challenge for Miami.

Bacot, Davis and Love combined to score 59 points in the North Carolina win over Clemson. Bacot also had 11 rebounds and set the Tar Heels’ career record in that category earlier this season. Norchad Omier, Nijel Pack and Isaiah Wong combined for 64 points and 14 rebounds in the Miami win over Louisville.

The Miami basketball team returns home on Saturday to host Wake Forest with a 1 PM ET tipoff. Miami has three of its last four games at home as the Hurricanes are in the heart of the race to win an ACC Championship. Miami is at Virginia Tech on February 21, before returning home to host FSU and Pittsburgh to end the season.
