Chris Hummer of 247 Sports named Miami safety Kamren Kinchens one of hisPlayers set to emerge as college football’s next superstars in 2023″ Kinchens was named first-team All-American by several outlets and tied for third nationally with six interceptions and led Miami with 59 tackles.

Defensive tackle Leonard Taylor and Kinchens are expected to anchor the Miami defense in 2023. Kinchens will play under his third defensive coordinator in as many years with Lance Guidry replacing Kevin Steele for the 2023 season. Kinchen started all 12 games as a sophomore in 2022 after five starts as a freshman in 2021.

Kinchens has received multiple accolades throughout the 2023 offseason. ESPN named Kinchens to their 2023 way-too-early All-American team. Kinchens will have to be a team leader on a roster that lost eight defensive backs after the 2022 season. Miami added two transfer cornerbacks and signed three freshmen at the position.

The Hurricanes will not have as much depth at safety behind Kinchens and James Williams. Miami returns Markeith Williams at safety to back up Kinchens and James Williams. Linebacker Darryl Spencer who signed with Miami in the 2023 class could be moved to safety. Kinchens should continue making plays in the Guirdry defense.

"KAMREN KINCHENS, S, MIAMI“A rare bright spot in during a difficult season for Miami, Kamren Kinchens quietly emerged as one of college football’s top ballhawks. Kinchens led the ACC with six interceptions, showcasing an innate ability to track and make plays on the football. On top of the big plays, Kinchens also excelled when matched up with tight ends, receivers or running backs. He’s arguably the best safety in college football. Kinchens is the type of presence that can help Miami reclaim its argument as “DBU.”"

Guidry led a Marshall defense that finished fourth nationally in 2022 averaging 1.38 interceptions per game with a total of 18 in 13 games. Kinchens had half of his 2022 interceptions at Georgia Tech that included a 100-yard return for a touchdown. Micah Abraham of Marshall also had six interceptions in 2022.

Kinchens will need to emerge as a superstar to significant improve his 2024 NFL Draft status. The Mock Draft Database currently projects Kinchens as the 222nd best player for the 2024 NFL Draft. Pro Football Focus graded Kinchens as the highest ranked safety in 2022. Kinchens needs another season like that in 2023.
