The Miami Hurricanes basketball team moved up two spots in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coach’s Poll on Monday ahead of its game at Virginia Tech on Tuesday night. The Miami football program received a few national accolades recently less than two weeks before spring practice. Miami baseball hosts Stetson on Tuesday.
The Miami Hurricanes basketball team is ranked 13th in the AP and 11th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Miami has a big opportunity on Tuesday to add to its NCAA Tournament ranking on Tuesday at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech will be the last opportunity for Miami versus a quad 1 opponent in the regular season.
The Miami football team received multiple national accolades recently. Brandon Marcello of 247 Sports named the Miami football program as one of the winners of the offseason for hiring Lance Guidry as defensive coordinator to replace Kevin Steele. Marcello believes Steele going to Alabama will benefit both programs.
Max Chadwick of Pro Football Focus named Kamren Kinchens second and James Williams fourth nationally among the best-returning safeties nationally in 2023. Kinchens had a breakout season in 2022 when he was named a first-team All-American. Miami is waiting for former five-star Williams to have a similar season.
David Lake of Inside the U recently wrote that “Mario Cristobal addressed 2022’s explosiveness concerns with the 2023 coordinator hires.” Miami was one of the worst teams nationally allowing explosive plays in 2022 and not creating enough of them. With the two new coordinator hires Lake expects that to change.
After winning the last two games of the series versus Penn State following dropping the season opener on Friday, the Miami baseball team hosts Stetson on Tuesday night. Stetson swept its season-opening series over Manhattan outscoring the Jaspers 35-7. Stetson beat Miami 12-4 in Coral Gables in their only meeting in 2022.
Marshall running backs coach Telly Lockette has decided to stay with the Thundering Herd over accepting the same position with the Miami football program. Lockette was an offensive quality control analyst with Miami in 2020. Miami has openings for RB and wide receiver coaches with spring practice beginning March 4.
