New Miami football RB coach Tim Harris has led improvement throughout career
Throughout his career as a collegiate running backs coach, Tim Harris Jr. has helped improve the rushing offense in most seasons. Harris Jr. joins a Miami football team that averaged 128.33 rushing yards per game in 2022 that was 95th nationally. Harris will have an almost entirely new RBs corps to work with at Miami.
In the first season Harris Jr. was the RBs coach at Florida International, the Panthers struggled immensely on the ground. FIU finished 122nd nationally in 2015 averaging 109.92 rushing yards per game. By the time Harris left FIU after the 2020 season, they improved to 71st nationally averaging 157.4 yards per game.
Harris left FIU after the 2020 season for Central Florida. The Knights were 29th nationally averaging 196.31 rushing yards per game with Harris coaching RBs. In the second season under Harris with him holding the title of Co-Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs UCF was ninth nationally averging 228.36 rushing YPG.
Harris faces a big coaching the Miami RBs. Henry Parrish who led Miami with 616 rushing yards in 2022 is the only RB returning for Miami who had a significant role last season. Don Chaney Jr. and Tre’Vonte Citizen are returning off major injuries and Mark Fletcher and Chris Johnson signed in the 2023 class.

Aside from 2020 at FIU and 2021 at UCF Harris has helped improve the rushing offense in all eight of his seasons as a RBs coach. Miami improved their rushing yards per game in 2022 by less than a yard from 2021. Mario Cristobal’s emphasis on the line of scrimmage was supposed to greatly improve the running game.

With an upgraded offensive line, Harris and new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson will be expected to help Miami significantly improve on the ground in 2023. Miami has talent at RB. Keeping the RBs healthy and productive will be a key in 2023. Harris has proven the ability to get the most from his RBs.
