Miami basketball stung often this season not closing games

Miami won easily at home versus Boston College before traveling to Raleigh to play North Carolina State on January 14. The Hurricanes rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to versus the Wolfpack take the lead on a Jordan Miller layup with 9:59 remaining. Miami took a three-point lead over NC State with three minutes left.

From that point on the Miami basketball team went scoreless as North Carolina State went on a 6-0 run to take a three-point lead with 55 seconds remaining. Miller tied the game with a three-point with 27 seconds remaining. Jarkel Joiner missed a three at the buzzer for NC State and the game went to overtime.

Miami once again surged in front in overtime leading 81-78 with two minutes left. After a layup by Ernest Ross cut the Miami lead to one with 1:59 remaining, neither team scored for the next 1:30. Ross scored on an offensive rebound putback with 29 seconds left and split free throws with 12 seconds left before a Miami turnover.

The Hurricanes did not score in the last 2:13 of overtime losing 83-31 at North Carolina State. NC State closed the game on a 5-0 run. The loss to the Wolfpack was the first of three consecutive Saturday road defenses for the Hurricanes. After a Big Monday win over Syracuse, Miami traveled to Duke.
