Top 2024 WR Jeremiah Smith likes Miami football hiring Kevin Beard
Jeremiah Smith the top wide receiver in the 2024 class tweeted “Coach Kevin Beard a real one 💯” prior to any official reports that the Miami football program was hiring Beard as their WR coach. Beard comes to Miami after six years at Toledo, the last five as the Rockets’ WR coach. Beard was on the Miami staff from 2014-2015.
Smith who attends Chaminade-Madonna is the fifth-ranked player, top WR and second-ranked player in the 2024 class. Ohio State earned a commitment from Smith in December. Could the tweet from Smith potentially earn Miami a chance to flip Smith? Smith’s high school teammate JoJo Trader is also on the top 2024 WRs.
The 247 Sports composite rankings have Trader as the 16th-ranked player, second-best athlete projected as a WR and fifth in Florida for 2024. If Beard can flip Smith and/or gain a commitment from Trader, one or both would be one of the cornerstones of the 2024 Miami class. Beard was well regarded as a recruiter at Toledo.
Beard was ranked as the fifth-best recruiter in the Mid-American Conference in 2022 per 247 Sports. During his tenure with Toledo, Beard helped develop multiple All-MAC performers including Pittsburgh Steelers star Diontae Johnson who they drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Smith finished with 58 receptions for 1,073 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior in 2022. At 6’3, 185 pounds Smith has the ideal size at WR. Andrew Ivins the Southeast Recruiting Analyst for 247 Sports said Smith is “One of the most talented wide receiver prospects to come out of South Florida in the modern recruiting era.”
Trader added 47 receptions for 743 yards and seven TDs as he, Smith and 2023 Florida State signee Edwin Joseph provided Chaminade-Madonna with one of the best WR trios in the country. Smith and Trader are playmakers and impact outside WRs that the Miami football program desperately needs.
