Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported on Wednesday that defensive analyst Jason Taylor is staying with the Miami Hurricanes over accepting a potential position with the Dolphins. The reported hiring of former Hurricane Kevin Beard as wide receivers coach has been primarily positive.

Taylor has been frequently mentioned as a replacement for defensive line coach Rod Wright who left to take a position with the Houston Texans as a defensive assistant. Wright is originally from Houston. Taylor was a part of the inaugural staff under Mario Cristobal. Defensive line coach is the only remaining open Miami position.

The reported hiring of Beard that several outlets on Tuesday and Wednesday was the last open position on the Miami offensive staff. Miami begins spring practice on Saturday. With defensive line coach Joe Salave’a already on the Miami staff and Taylor potentially coaching edge rushers Miami would be fine in spring practice.

The Miami women’s basketball team will play their ACC Tournament opener on Thursday in Greensboro versus 11th-seeded Boston College who defeated 14th-seed Georgia Tech 62-57 on Wednesday night. Miami defeated Boston College 86-65 in Coral Gables earlier this season. Miami is 18-11 overall and 11-7 in the ACC.

The NFL Scouting Combine begins on Thursday. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and tight end Will Mallory are the only participants from the Miami Hurricanes football program in Indianapolis. Stevenson will compete with defensive backs on Friday and Mallory will have a chance to show his skills to scouts on Saturday.

Four-star 2024 prospect T.A. Cunningham who is the 13th-ranked defensive lineman in 2024 from Los Alamitos, California posted via Twitter on Wednesday that he will be attending Junior Day in Coral Gables this weekend. Cunningham is the 50th-ranked 2024 prospect, ninth DL and sixth player in California.

Cunningham told Stephen Wagner of CaneSport that he has the best relationship with Salave’a. This is a big weekend for the Class of 2024 Miami targets. Miami needs to continue building a strong recruiting class after signing the seventh-best 2023 class. Miami has a chance to build relationships with mostly new coaches.
