Miami baseball loses weekend series at Florida
Florida defeated the Miami baseball team 14-4 in eight innings on Sunday to earn the run-rule victory. The win on Sunday earned Florida a series victory over Miami. Florida won the series opener 10-4 on Friday night before Miami rallied scoring the last 13 runs on Saturday for a 14-6 win.
Miami quickly gained momentum on Friday night with a three-run Yohandy Morales in the top of the first inning. Florida scored one in the bottom of the first, tied the game with two in the third inning and took the lead for good with two more in the fourth on their way to the 10-4 victory.
Miami had an epic comeback on Saturday. The Hurricanes fell behind 6-1 after five innings. Miami scored in each of the last four innings which began with a two-run sixth and continued with three in the seventh inning, four in the eighth and four in the ninth in a 14-6 win. Miami relievers shut out Florida to earn the win.
Ronaldo Gallo and Chris Scinta preceded closer Andrew Walters who earned a two-out save. Florida could not stop freshman Blake Cyr. Cyr had three hits in five at-bats with two runs scored and seven RBIs, including two home runs on Saturday night. The win on Saturday is the only Miami baseball 2023 road victory.
On Sunday Florida scored four runs in the first inning, matched that in the second and added a solo run in the third to take a 9-0 lead after three innings. Miami scored one in the fourth inning and three in the eighth to seemingly have a chance, but five Gators runs in the bottom of the eighth run ruled Miami.
The Hurricanes conclude the weekend with an 8-4 record. Florida improves to 10-3 winning two out of the three games versus Miami. Miami also lost its midseason game this week at Florida Atlantic on Tuesday. Jacksonville visits Miami on Wednesday. Miami begins ACC play versus North Carolina State next weekend.
