The Miami football program lost some depth at tight end on Saturday morning when rising redshirt sophomore Khalil Brantley tweeted he is entering the transfer portal. Brantley would have been the third or fourth TE on the Miami depth chart at best. Elijah Arroyo and Jaleel Skinner project as the top two Miami TEs in 2023.

Tight end should be one of the deepest positions on the Miami roster in 2023. Arroyo is entering his third season in the Miami football program but coming off an injury that caused him to miss the majority of the 2022 season. Skinner is the top returning Miami TE in terms of 2022 production.

As a true freshman last season Skinner had nine receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown. Arroyo had five receptions for 56 yards in limited playing time in 2022 because of the injury. Miami added Oregon transfer Cameron McCormick and signed Jackson Carver and Riley Williams in the Class of 2023.

McCormick who dealt with injury problems throughout his career at Oregon is regarded as more of a blocking TE. This will be the sixth season for McCormick in college. In five years with the Ducks, four under Miami head coach Mario Cristobal, McCormick had 18 receptions for 169 yards and three TDs.

Miami also returns Dominic Mammarelli who similar to McCormick adds depth and another blocking TE. Brantley is the 20th Miami player since the end of the 2022 season to enter the transfer portal. With six new coaches on the Miami staff, TE coach Stephen Field has provided the most stability for the Hurricanes.

Brantley finishes his Miami career with five receptions for 28 yards and one TD. In 2022 Brantley had four receptions for 22 yards and a TD as the primary backup to Skinner after Arroyo got hurt. The makeover of the Miami football roster has been significant under Cristobal in his second offseason with the Hurricanes.
