Miami Hurricanes News: Hoops ACC Champs, Bats beat Florida, FB spring practice
Saturday will go down as one of the most memorable in the history of Miami Hurricanes athletics. The Miami basketball team held on late defeating Pittsburgh 78-76 to earn a share of the ACC regular season championship and the number one seed in the conference tournament next week in Greensboro.
Miami Hurricanes athletics began the day with spring practice beginning under a new look football staff. There was a lot of coverage about spring practice beginning on Saturday from multiple media outlets that cover Miami. Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald summarized comments by Mario Cristobal on Saturday.
Cristobal stated he thought that execution overall for Day 1 was fairly decent. The Miami football team had a lot of energy per Cristobal and he commented on the addition of the new coaches. Cristobal was pleased with how quickly the new coaches were able to pick up the pace and adapt to different schemes.
Somewhat lost in the shuffle among the beginning of spring practice and the basketball team earning a share of the conference title was an incredible comeback by the Miami baseball team at Florida on Saturday. The Gators and Hurricanes started late on Saturday because of a rain delay.
Miami fell behind 6-1 after Florida extended its lead with a four-run fifth inning. The Hurricanes exploded after that. Miami scored two runs in the sixth, three in the seventh inning, four in the eighth and four in the ninth in a 14-6 win. Ronaldo Gallo, Chris Scinta and Andrew Walters shut out Florida over the last four innings.
Blake Cyr was the offensive star for Miami. Cyr was 3-5 with two runs scored and seven RBIs including two home runs. Miami and Florida will play at noon on Sunday to decide who wins the three-game series. The Hurricanes improved to 8-3 in 2023 and earned its first road win of the season on Saturday.
