The number one-seeded Miami basketball team will make its 2023 ACC Tournament debut versus ninth-seed Wake Forest on Thursday at noon in Greensboro, North Carolina. Miami pulled away in the last five minutes to defeat Wake Forest at the Watsco Center in February. Wake Forest defeated Syracuse 77-74 on Wednesday.

The win by Wake Forest over Syracuse turned out to be the last game of Jim Boeheim’s career. Syracuse issued a statement after the game that former player and current assistant coach Adrian Autry is the new Orange head coach. A Daivien Williamson three-pointer won the game for Wake Forest with less than a second left.

Miami enters the game on a high after holding on to the final buzzer to defeat Pittsburgh and win a share of the ACC regular season title with Virginia. The Hurricanes have won eight of its last nine games entering the NCAA Tournament. Miami could improve its NCAA Tournament seed with a good run in Greensboro.

Expect a high-scoring game between Miami and Wake Forest after the Hurricanes won 96-87 versus the Demon Deacons last month. Miami leads the ACC averaging 79.63 points per game and Wake Forest is third at 76.74. The Hurricanes are 10th in the ACC allowing 71.70 PPG and the Demon Deacons are 13th at 73.77.

Six Wake Forest players finished in double figures in the Miami win last month. Wake Forest will be without Damari Monsanto who had season-ending surgery last month. Monsanto was second on Wake Forest with 14 points versus Miami in February. Miami has to play better versus defensively on Thursday.

Wake Forest shot 55.17 percent and made 15 of 35 three-point field goal attempts last time versus the Miami basketball team. The Hurricanes shot 58.73 percent versus the Demon Deacons and made eight of its 16 three-point attempts. Four Miami players finished in double figures in the last game versus Wake Forest.

Isaiah Wong scored 27, Nijel Pack had 24, Norchad Omier 17 and Jordan Miller 14 in the last game versus Wake Forest. With a trip to the ACC semifinals on the line expect better defense from both teams on Thursday. Miami needs to improve defensively to make a run in the NCAA Tournament that begins next week.
