Miami Hurricanes News: Hoops teams NCAA assignments, bats win NC State series

The Miami Hurricanes basketball teams earned NCAA Tournament berths on Sunday. The men open as a five-seed in Albany, New York versus Missouri Valley Conference champion Drake. In the women’s NCAA Tournament Miami will play Oklahoma State in Bloomington, Indiana. The Miami baseball team won their series versus NC State.

The Miami basketball team not playing until Friday will allow Miami forward Norchad Omier an extra day of rest. Omier rolled his ankle in the first minute of the ACC Tournament on Friday night versus Duke and did not return. Head coach Jim Larranaga does not expect to know if Omier will play until later this week.

The Miami women’s basketball team finished the season 19-12 overall. Virginia Tech emphatically beat Miami 68-42 in the ACC Tournament. Oklahoma State finished the 2022-23 season with a 21-11 overall record. Miami is the ninth seed and Oklahoma State is the 10th seed. Oklahoma State eliminated Miami in the 1989 NCAA.

The Miami baseball team won the 9-8 on Friday night and 8-1 on Saturday to clinch a series win over North Carolina State. Miami overcame blowing an 8-0 lead on Friday to earn the victory. North Carolina State throttled Miami 14-4 on Sunday to avoid being swept. This was the first weekend of ACC play.

Alex Donno of All Hurricanes who also hosts the Locked on Canes podcast had a chance to speak to Miami cornerback Te’Cory Couch after practice on Thursday. Coach told Donno and other reports that Miami has improved its speed numbers this season. The Miami Hurricanes football team is on spring break until March 21.
