Miami Hurricanes News: NCAA Tournament ready, Bats ACC Award
The Miami Hurricanes basketball teams are getting ready for the NCAA Tournament. The men play on Friday night at 7:25 versus Drake on TBS in Albany and the women play on Saturday at 1 PM on ESPN. After a rough start to the season, Gage Ziehl was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week by the conference on Monday.
The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team will not likely find out until later this week if Norchad Omier will be able to play on Friday versus Drake. Omier exited the ACC Tournament semifinal game on Friday versus Duke in the first minute. Duke outrebounded Miami 36-24 missing Omier for most of the game.
The Miami women will travel to Bloomington, Indiana to play Oklahoma State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Miami finished the regular season 19-12. After a five-game winning streak in January, Miami is 7-6 in its last 13 games. Oklahoma State finished the 2022-23 season 22-11.
After a rough start to the season that saw Ziehl moved from the Friday night starter to Saturday Ziehl dominated an elite North Carolina State offense. The Wolfpack is hitting .338 this season. Ziehl pitched eight innings, allowing four hits, no earned runs and eight strikeouts. Miami won the series versus North Carolina State.
David Wilson of the Miami Herald wrote about the transition Colbie Young has made since joining the Miami Hurricanes football program last August. Young stated he is more relaxed this spring than he was during August training camp when he quickly had the learn the Miami offense. Young could be Miami’s leading receiver in 2023.
Without Omier, Miami is becoming a trendy upset pick in the NCAA Tournament. The Hurricanes are also getting national love. ESPN analysts Seth Greenberg and Dick Vitale picked Miami to reach the Midwest Regional Final for the second straight season. The ability for Miami to advance couldd hinge on Omier’s health.
