Miami Hurricanes head basketball coach Jim Larranaga appeared on the Hochman and Crowder Show on WQAM on Tuesday to preview their NCAA Tournament opener versus Drake and said he has his “fingers crossed”  that star forward Norchad Omier can play after suffering a sprained ankle against Duke on Friday.

The Miami Hurricanes baseball team has its shortest travel for a road game this season when they play at Florida International on Wednesday night. Miami won two out of three versus North Carolina State this weekend but dropped the final game of the series 14-4 on Sunday. The Hurricanes need to bounce back on Wednesday.

Miami is 10-6 overall and 1-3 on the road this season with their sole win at Florida last month. The Hurricanes lost two out of three games to the Gators on the road and at Florida Atlantic last week. FIU is 11-6 overall and dropped three of four at Missouri in their only competition versus a power conference team.

There have been some reports that if Omier cannot play on Friday he would be ready to play on Sunday versus Indiana or Kent State if Miami defeats Drake. That’s a lot of what-ifs, but Jim Larranaga and his staff have frequently succeeded in adapting game plans to their personnel available.

Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald

profiled Miami cornerback Te’Cory Couch

. Couch has bulked up to 182 pounds from 170 last year. Degnan quoted Couch saying that with cornerbacks D.J. Ivey and Tyrique Stevenson completing their Miami careers the competition is the highest at the position as its been recently.
