The Miami basketball team will begin NCAA Tournament play on Friday at 7:25 ET on TBS versus Drake. Reports on Friday emerged that forward Norhcad Omier is progressing from his ankle injury and trending toward playing versus Drake. Omier missed all but 1:06 in the ACC semifinal versus Duke after suffering a sprained ankle.

Friday night will be the first-ever meeting between Drake and Miami. In its only game versus a Power Conference team this season Drake defeated Mississippi State 58-52 in Lincoln, Nebraska on December 20. That game was played at a much slower pace than the 75.3 points per game that Drake averages this season.

If Omier can’t play or has limited minutes, Anthony Walker is expected to get the start or at the very least see a significant increase in playing time. Omier is averaging 13.6 PPG, 9.7 RPG and shoots 59.1 percent from the floor. Walker averages 10.3 minutes per game, 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds.

Miami will need contributions from freshman A.J. Casey and Walker versus Drake. The Hurricanes will also need a team effort on the boards. Expect fifth-year senior Jordan Miller to contribute more to the rebounding than is usually needed from him. Darnell Brodie at 6’10, 275 pounds leads Drake averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.
