The Miami Hurricanes basketball team will be one of the last to play in the 2023 NCAA Tournament when they tipoff on Friday at 7:25 PM ET versus Drake in Albany, New York. The Miami baseball team will play its second ACC series this weekend when they host Virginia Tech Friday through Sunday.

Longtime national college basketball reporter Adam Zagoria tweeted on Thursday afternoon that Miami Hurricanes forward Norchad Omier is trending to play versus Drake after suffering a sprained ankle that caused him to miss almost the entire ACC Tournament semifinal loss against Duke last Friday night.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports followed an hour after Zagoria quoting Miami head coach Jim Larranaga stating about Omierif his ankle doesn’t swell overnight” he will play. Omier is averaging 13.6 points per game, 9.7 rebounds, shoots 59.1 percent from the field and has 28.1 percent of Miami’s rebounds.

Virginia Tech travels to Miami 12-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC and is currently ranked 17th nationally. After winning the opening game versus Boston College 13-3 last Friday Virginia Tech dropped the final two games of the series. Virginia Tech had a game on Tuesday at East Tennessee State rained out.

David Lake of Inside the U had “Five way-too-early hot takes on the 2023 Miami Hurricanes.” Included among those were that “The new coordinators will be better fits year over year” and Miami’s offense will need to lean heavily on the pass game” Locked on Canes Alex Donno also stated his own Miami hot takes.

Donno had a second episode on Thursday discussing the return of Braxton Berrios who led the Miami Hurricanes in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns in 2017 to the Dolphins after being released by the Jets. Berrios spent the last four seasons with the New York Jets after one with the New England Patriots.

Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald wrote about the skeptics of the Miami Basketball program. Drake has become a trendy upset pick versus Miami because of the injury to Omier. Forward Jordan Miller told Kaufman “to put Miami on the map officially, we have to win a national championship.”
