Following their harrowing 63-56 win over Drake in the first round the Miami basketball team attempts to advance to the regional semifinals in consecutive seasons for the first time in school history. Miami will have a significantly more difficult challenge on Sunday night versus Indiana in the second round.

Indiana had an impressive 71-60 victory over Mid-American Conference Champion Kent State in the first round on Friday night. In a rare quirk, the Miami women’s basketball team will also play versus Indiana in the second round in Bloomington on Monday. The Miami women beat Oklahoma State in the first round on Saturday.

Norchad Omier returned from an ankle injury that caused him to miss almost the entire ACC Semifinal loss to Duke and scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds to help secure the late victory versus Drake on Friday night. Nijel Pack led the Miami basketball team with 21 points versus Drake and Wooga Poplar had 15.

Forward Tracye Jackson-Davis who is a projected lottery pick in the NBA Draft led Indiana with 24 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five blocked shots. Expect Omier and Jordan Miller to be the primary defenders on Jackson-Davis with a lot of help from team defense. Everything for Miami begins with Jackson-Davis.

Indiana will be one of the most talented teams Miami has played this season. Jackson-Davis and guard Jalen Hood-Schifino compare to anyone on the Duke and North Carolina rosters. Hood-Schifino struggled versus Kent State with eight points on just 4-11 shooting. Jackson-Davis will likely be the key.

Miami needs to make someone other than Jackson-Davis beat them. Race Thompson scored 20 points for Indiana on 8-11 from the floor, 2-3 three-point attempts and nine rebounds. Hood-Schifino is the only other Hoosiers player averaging in double figures at 13.3 points per game,  4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

The Miami basketball team has far more firepower offensively with Jordan Miller, Omier, Pack and Isaiah Wong all averaging at least 13 PPG. The Hurricanes like a slightly higher pace than the Hoosiers. Miami averages 78.9 points per game, Indiana 74.9. The Hurricanes allow 71.6 PPG and the Hoosiers 68.2.

Miami is 19-14 this season versus the point spread and Indiana is 16-17-1. The Hurricanes have had 14 games go over the total and 18 under with one push. Indiana has had 19 games go over 14 under and also had one push. The expectation for Miami versus Drake was a high-scoring game that finished with 119 points.

In a game with more skilled players expect and one NCAA Tournament game played expect a higher-scoring game. The 145.5 feels easy for most Miami games, but in the NCAA Tournament that still seems high. Betting the under seems safe. Miami and Indiana should produce another tight finish.
