Miami Hurricanes News: Hoops NCAA versus Indiana, Bats and WBB win

After their exhilarating win over Drake on Friday night the Miami Hurricanes basketball team will tipoff at 8:40 PM ET on Sunday night in the NCAA Tournament second round versus Indiana. The Miami women’s basketball team earned the fifth biggest comeback from 17 down to defeat Oklahoma State in the first round.

Miami moves on to the second round in Bloomington, Indiana and will also face the Hoosiers in the second round on Monday. The baseball team also contributed to what has been an incredible two days for the Miami Hurricanes by sweeping a three-game series against 17th-ranked Virginia Tech.

With a 60 percent chance of rain forecast for Coral Gables on Sunday, the final game of the series was moved to Saturday. Miami walked off Virginia Tech with a 4-3 win on Friday night, won the first game on Saturday 21-6 and used a six-run eighth inning for a 12-9 victory and the series sweep on Saturday.

Miami improves to 14-6 overall and 5-1 in the ACC. The Hurricanes’ start is in the ACC is even more impressive with wins over ranked North Carolina State and Virginia Tech teams. Virginia Tech is now 12-7 overall and 1-5 in the ACC. Miami should be in the top 25 when the rankings are released this week.

Indiana was impressive in its 71-60 opening-round win over Kent State. Norchad Omier will have his biggest challenge of the season versus first-team All-American Trayce Jackson-Davis of Indiana. Omier scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds in the Miami win over Drake, Omier showed no effects of his ankle injury.

The Miami women’s basketball team trailed Oklahoma State 37-20 at halftime on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Miami outscored Oklahoma State 20-7 in the third quarter that include an 11-0 run out of halftime. Miami began the fourth quarter with a 13-2 run to take a 53-46 lead with 7:06 left.

Oklahoma State fought back and had a chance to win but Naomie Alnatas’ scoop shot rolled off the win at the buzzer. The Miami men’s and women’s basketball teams have both advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year. The Miami women have a huge task versus number one seed Indiana.
