Miami Hurricanes News: Hoops to Sweet 16, WBB versus Indiana
The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team earned consecutive trips to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history with a mostly dominant 85-69 win over Indiana in the second round on Sunday night. The Miami women’s basketball team will play Indiana on Monday night in Bloomington.
Aside from the final 10 minutes of the first half and the first two minutes plus of the second half the Miami Hurricanes dominated Indiana. The Hurricanes began the game on a 13-3 run to seize control. Indiana rallied to close their deficit to 35-30 at halftime. Indiana scored the first eight points before Miami regained control.
Halfway through the second half, Miami went on a 14-2 run to take a 63-51 lead. Indiana never got closer than seven points the rest of the way. Isaiah Wong led Miami with 27 points after scoring only five in the Hurricanes’ win over Drake on Friday. Norchad Omier set a program NCAA Tournament record with 17 rebounds.
The Miami women’s basketball team had the day off after the fifth-biggest rally in the history of the NCAA Tournament coming back from 17 down on Saturday to defeat Oklahoma State. Miami has a huge task on Monday playing at number one seed Indiana in the second round on Monday night.
Several websites and media outlets have already begun looking ahead to the Midwest Regional Semifinals on Friday night versus Houston. The Field of 68 and CBS Sports both gave instant previews looking ahead following the Miami win over Indiana. The Field of 68 discussion included former UNC star, Tyler Hansbrough.
In addition to the basketball teams, the Miami football team will return to spring practice on Tuesday after being off for spring break. Miami had three practices beginning on March 4. Miami has 12 practices remaining this spring before the annual scrimmage on Friday, April 14, at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
