Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina Miami football legend Braxton Berrios grew up a Dolphins and Hurricanes fan. Berrios stated during his introductory press conference that his dad is originally from Miami and the paternal side of his family is from Puerto Rico. Berrios also discussed his favorite Hurricanes memory.

Berrios stated the 41-8 Miami football win over Notre Dame in 2017 was his favorite memory from his time with the Hurricanes. ESPN College Gameday visited Coral Gables for the only time in the morning preceding the game between Miami and Notre Dame later that night at Hard Rock Stadium.

During the 2017 Miami football ACC Coastal Division title season, Berrios led Miami with 55 receptions, 679 receiving yards and nine touchdown receptions. The numbers Berrios recorded as a senior in 2017 eclipsed his career statistics entering that season. Berrios was a clutch receiver for Miami in 2017.

Berrios had 32 receptions for first downs in 2017, 17 that went for 15 or more yards and five for 25 or more yards. In 2017 Berrios improved late in games. Berrios had 17 receptions for 216 yards, four TDs, nine for first downs and six catches of 15 or more yards in the fourth quarter. That helped Miami win 10 games.

"“The 2017 Notre Dame game…College Gameday was there…41-8 speaks for itself. Nothing like Hard Rock when it gets rocking.”"

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald quoted Berrios reliving his favorite Miami memory. Berrios got Miami on the scoreboard against Notre Dame with a seven-yard TD reception from quarterback Malik Rosier with 4:01 remaining in the first quarter. Rosier added another score less than 90 seconds later to put Miami up 14-0.

Berrios finished with two receptions for 10 yards and added two punt returns for 28 yards in the win over Notre Dame. The most productive game that season for Berrios came against another archrival. Berrios had eight receptions for 90 yards and two TDs as Miami won 24-20 at Florida State.

The Hurricanes’ win broke a seven-game losing streak to the Seminoles. Berrios finished his Miami career with three receptions for 45 yards in a 34-24 Orange Bowl loss to Wisconsin. The New England Patriots selected Berrios in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft following his Miami football career.
