Friday will be one of the biggest days in Miami Hurricanes history

The Miami Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams play on Friday in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and the baseball team begins a three-game series at second-ranked Wake Forest. The combination of the three teams with huge games makes it one of the biggest days in Miami’s history.

After winning the ACC regular season title there was a lot of hope for the men’s basketball team in the NCAA Tournament. Miami advanced to the Midwest Regional Final in 2022 and led Kansas 35-29 at halftime before losing 76-50 to the eventual national champions. Miami is in the Sweet 16 in consecutive years for the first time.

Even more impressive with advancing to the Midwest Regional Semifinals for a second consecutive year is that Miami did so as a lower seed. In 2022 10th seeded Miami upset seventh-seed USC in the first round and second-seed Auburn in the second round before defeating 11th-seed Iowa State in the Sweet 16.

The Miami women’s basketball team rallied from a 37-20 halftime deficit in the first round as the ninth seed to defeat eighth-seeded Oklahoma State 62-61. Miami never trailed against top-seeded Indiana defeating the Hoosiers 70-68 in the second round in Bloomington. Miami advances to its first Sweet 16 since 1992.

The Miami women’s basketball team finished sixth in the ACC and is 21-12 this season. Miami plays fourth-seeded Villanova in Greenville, South Carolina on Friday at 2:30 PM ET. Maddie Siegrist leads the nation in scoring for Villanova averaging 29.2 points per game. McKenzie Holmes of Indiana is seventh averaging 22.3 PPG.

The Miami Hurricanes baseball team travels to second-ranked Wake Forest this weekend with a 15-6 record, five straight wins and victories in seven of its last eight games. Miami leads the ACC Coastal Division with a 5-1 record. Wake Forest is 19-3 overall and is in a tie with Boston College at 4-2 in the Atlantic Division.

This is the first ACC road series in 2023 for the Miami Hurricanes baseball team. There should be a lot of home runs at Wake Forest this weekend. Miami is fifth nationally with 47 home runs and Wake Forest is tied for seventh with 45. Miami and Wake Forest play at 8 PM Friday, 4 PM Saturday and noon on Sunday.

The Miami men’s basketball team tips off at 7:15 PM ET versus number one seed Houston at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City in the Midwest Regional Semifinals. Miami is seeking its second straight trip to a regional final and it’s second in school history. Houston hopes to earn its third straight Elite Eight berth.
