Miami Hurricanes News: FB spring practice, bats win, hoops sweet 16
After having Wednesday off the Miami Hurricanes football team returns to spring practice on Thursday. The Miami baseball team earned a 10-5 win over Florida Atlantic on Wednesday night. Miami men’s and women’s basketball teams met with reporters before leaving for their NCAA Tournament regional semifinals.
The Miami Hurricanes football team will have its fifth spring practice and second since returning from break on Tuesday. One potential thing to watch after practice on Thursday is that none of the new position coaches have spoken to the media yet. Miami hired four new positions coaches during the 2023 offseason.
Defensive line coach Jason Taylor, linebackers coach Derek Nicholson, running backs coach Tim Harris Jr. and wide receivers coach Kevin Beard are all new in their positions for 2023. Taylor was on the 2022 Miami staff as a defensive analyst. Beard previously coached and played for Miami and Harris ran track for the Hurricanes.
The Miami baseball team rallied after allowing four runs in the top of the first inning for the 10-5 win over Florida Atlantic on Wednesday night in Coral Gables. Freshman designated hitter Blake Cyr had four runs batted in and shortstop Dominic Pitelli had four hits. The Miami bullpen allowed one run in 7.2 innings.
Prior to leaving for their regional semifinal games in the NCAA Tournament, head coaches Jim Larranaga and Katie Meier and players A.J. Casey and Norchad Omier for the men and Destiny Harden for the women
. The men play Friday night in Kansas City versus Houston in the Midwest Region at 7:15 PM.
The women have an early tipoff at 2:30 PM ET in the Greenville 2 Regional versus fourth-seed Villanova. Miami shocked Greenville 2 number one seeded Indiana on Monday night in Bloomington. Harden had the game-winning shot with three seconds remaining to slay the Hoosiers.
Houston is seeking its third straight appearance in a regional final. Villanova features the leading scorer Maggie Siegrist. Siegrist is averaging 29.1 points per game and 9.1 rebounds this season. In the NCAA Tournament, Siegrist scored 66 points and has 11 rebounds. Harden has been the go-to player for Miami in the last two years.
