After Friday’s historic wins by the Miami basketball teams, the men and women will play on Sunday in the Regional Finals with a chance to advance to their first Final Fours. The Miami basketball team will play in the men’s tournament first on Sunday with a 5:05 PM ET Tipoff versus Texas in Kansas City.

The advancement of the men’s and women’s Miami basketball teams in the NCAA Tournament has been versus five higher-seeded teams in six games. After winning over Houston on Friday night the Miami basketball team became the only one in the men’s tournament to advance to the Elite Eight in each of the last two years.

Texas advanced with an 83-71 win over Xavier. Miami defeated Houston 89-75. Nijel Pack blitzed Houston for 26 points. Pack made eight of 12 shots from the floor and seven of his 10 three-point attempts. Miami made 51.7 percent of its shots from the floor and 11 of 25 three-point attempts versus the elite Houston defense.

Texas shot 52.5 percent in its win over Xavier and made seven of their 12 three-point shots. The Longhorns held Xavier to 43.8 percent and allowed seven of their 17 three-point shots. Texas led 42-35 at halftime and their lead was never less than 12 in the first half. It should come down to Miami’s offense versus Texas’ defense.

After losing in the Midwest Regional Final last season to Kansas, Miami will match up with a Big XII team for the second straight year. Texas beat Kansas twice this month. The Longhorns have not advanced to the Final Four since 2003. Texas also had Final Four appearances in 1943 and 1947.

Miami will need a team effort on the boards led by Lola Pendande to neutralize Reese. Destiny Harden and Pendande need to stay out of four trouble.

Sunday is the biggest day in the history of Miami basketball. After the men tip off at 5:05 PM ET, the women will begin at 7:00 PM. There might be some overlap. Miami will attempt to become the 11th program to have its men’s and women’s programs make the Final Four in the same year. Texas did it in 2003 and LSU in 2006.
