Miami Hurricanes News: Hoops 1st Final Four, WBB run ends, Bats Swept
The Miami Hurricanes magical March run continued on Sunday rallying from a 13-point deficit and defeating Texas 88-81 and advancing to their first Final Four. The Miami women’s basketball team fell one game short of the Final Four losing 54-42 to LSU. Wake Forest swept the Miami baseball team in a three-game weekend series.
The win by the Miami Hurricanes basketball team over Texas came 17 years to the day after Hurricanes head coach Jim Larranaga led George Mason to the Final Four with an upset over Connecticut in the East Regional Final. Connecticut is the Miami Hurricanes opponent in the Final Four in Houston on Saturday.
Miami and UConn will tip off at 8:49 PM ET. Jordan Miller led Miami with 27 points, making all seven of his shots from the field and 13 free throws. All five Miami starters finished in double figures. Miami improved to 29-7 with the win. Miami tied Kansas for the most wins in the last two NCAA Tournaments with seven.
The Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team struggled offensively throughout the loss to LSU. Miami shot 31.6 percent from the floor and missed all 15 of its three-point attempts. Hurricanes’ star Destiny Harden missed all nine of her shots from the floor and seven from three-point attempts.
Sophomore Jasmyne Roberts led Miami for the second straight game. After scoring a career-high 26 points in the Regional Semifinal on Friday, Roberts scored 22, 16 in the first half versus LSU. Roberts was the only Miami player in double figures on Sunday. Miami could return everyone but Harden next season.
Wake Forest beat the Miami baseball team on Sunday 4-1 in eight innings to complete the series sweep. The game ended after eight innings due to a travel curfew. Miami will host Florida International on Tuesday before Florida State travels to Coral Gables for a three-game series next weekend.
