The Miami football program promoted Cody Woodiel to tight ends coach from an offensive analyst on Monday as reported by Gaby Urruria of Inside the U. Stephen Field has been reassigned to the recruiting staff. Woodiel has a long history with Miami head coach Mario Cristobal extending to time on the Oregon staff.

Woodiel joined the Oregon football staff in 2017 as an offensive graduate assistant coach when Cristobal was the Ducks’ co-offensive coordinator. Prior to moving to Eugene, Oregon, Woodiel was the offensive line coach at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi. Woodiel played, tackle, guard and tight end at Troy in 2011-12.

Woodiel started all 12 games for Troy playing 800 snaps as a senior per his Oregon biography. Troy was 27th nationally in 2012 allowing 1.25 sacks per game. The Miami football program now has four new offensive assistant coaches on the 2023 staff led by offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson from Houston.

The Hurricanes also hired running backs coach Tim Harris Jr. and wide receivers coach Kevin Beard. Woodiel has a very talented group of tight ends to work with. Oregon transfer Cameron McCormick has received most of the first team TE snaps this spring per multiple media outlets.

Miami returns Elijah Arroyo, Dominic Mammarelli and Jaleel Skinner and has 2023 signees Jackson Carver and Riley Williams this spring. Arroyo, McCormick and Skinner are projected to receive most of the 2023 TE snaps for Miami. Woodiel is highly regarded as a recruiter. Four-star TE Kylan Fox posted a picture of him and Woodiel.

The Fox tweet was posted about the same time that the news broke of Woodiel’s promotion. Woodiel is the second Miami analyst promoted to an on-field role for 2023. Pro Football Hall of Fame edge rusher Jason Taylor was elevated to a defensive line assistant coach this offseason.

Woodiel was the director of recruiting at Oregon in 2018 when the Ducks signed the 13th-best class nationally and the top one in program history in the first season under Cristobal as head coach. Per Urrutia, Woodiel was on the road recruiting when Miami had an incomplete staff over the past 14 months.
