Miami Hurricanes News: Final 4 Prep, FB assistant coaches speak
Jim Larranaga spoke to the media in the Final Four at Houston as the Miami Hurricanes basketball team gets ready to play Connecticut on Saturday. New Miami assistant football coaches, running backs coach Tim Harris Jr., tight ends coach Cody Woodiel and wide receivers coach Kevin Beard spoke to the media on Thursday.
It was the first time that those three met with the media since being hired during the offseason. Woodiel was promoted after being an offensive analyst for Miami last season. Former TEs coach Stephen Field was reassigned to a recruiting position. Beard is entering his second stint as a Miami Hurricanes assistant coach.
Harris returns to Miami where his father won three state championships at Booker T. Washington. Assistant head coach and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal also spoke with Miami reporters. David Lake of Inside the U spoke summarized the thoughts of the four Miami assistant coaches who spoke to reporters on Thursday.
Mirabal spoke about creating chemistry in the offensive coaching staff. Beard and Harris are grateful to return to their alma mater. Woodiel stated that Field is still helping out in the TE room. New Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson appeared on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM on Thursday.
Lake summarized the interview with Dawson who discussed with Rose his background learning the Air Raid offense from Mike Leach and Dana Holgersen. Dawson said he cannot get away from his background but the Air Raid offense has evolved. Miami will use the TE more often than the traditional Air Raid per Rose.
In his press conference at the Final Four Larranaga was peppered with questions by the national media about NIL and any conflicts that occurred within the Miami basketball team due to name, image and likeness deals. Larranaga took the high road and stated that he focuses on what he can control for Miami.
