Miami Hurricanes News: Hoops lose to champions x2, early top 25, FB practice
Miami Hurricanes basketball teams only lose to champions. For the second year in a row, the Miami men’s and women’s basketball teams were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by the championship team. The Miami football team will hold its ninth spring practice on Tuesday morning and baseball hosts UCF.
The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team lost to Kansas in the Midwest Regional final in 2022 and to Connecticut in the 2023 National Semifinal. The Miami women’s basketball team lost at South Carolina in the 2022 second round and versus LSU in Greenville, South Carolina in the 2023 Regional Final.
Following the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season several media outlets posted their way too early 2023-24 top 25s. The highest ranking for the Miami Hurricanes in the way too early top 25s is eighth from 247 Sports. That ranking is predicated on the unlikely return of Isaiah Wong for next season.
Heat Check College Basketball ranks Miami 12th with the expectation that Wong will leave. The Sporting News ranks Miami 14th without any synopsis of the expectations for Miami next season. The Miami women’s basketball team who could return almost everyone next season wasn’t considered for the ESPN way too early top 25.
With the basketball season over the focus will be on baseball and spring football. The Miami football team begins the fourth week of spring practice on Tuesday. David Lake of Inside the U wrote about “Five takeaways from the third week of spring football.” The Lake list includes defensive and offensive players and coaches.
On the eve of the NCAA Championship game, ESPN College Gameday named Jordan Miller to its All-Tournament team. Miller averaged 15.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in the NCAA Tournament. The 27 points on seven of seven from the floor and 13 of 13 from the foul line Miller had versus Texas in the regional final was historic.
Miller was the first player to make a combined 20 shots from the field and the free-throw line since Christian Laettner in the 1992 East Regional Final versus Kentucky. Miller is the only Miami player that completed his eligibility in the Final Four. Isaiah Wong is expected to enter the 2023 NBA Draft.
