Miami Hurricanes News: Bats win, Hoops top ranking, FB players talk
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team battered Central Florida 14-3 on Tuesday night in Coral Gables. The Miami basketball team earned its highest ranking ever in the season-ending polls and four football players spoke after practice. After the national championship game on Monday night, more way too early top 25s were released.
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team earned a 14-3 win over Central Florida on Tuesday night by breaking the game completely open late. Miami scored three runs in the second inning, two in the fourth, four in the sixth and five in the seventh in the dominant win. UCF scored one in the fourth and two in the eighth.
Following its Final Four run the Miami basketball team moved up from 12th in the final regular season poll to third after Connecticut defeated San Diego State for the national championship on Monday night. Connecticut was first in the final poll and San Diego State, second. Duke and Virginia were the only other ACC teams in the poll.
Defensive backs Davonte Brown and Darryl Porter Jr, kicker Andres Borregales and linebacker Corey Flagg spoke to reporters after practice on Tuesday. Brown and Porter spoke about the chemistry between American Heritage alums on the Miami roster. Mark Fletcher and Damari Brown will arrive this summer.
Flagg spoke about new defensive coordinator Lance Guidry, linebackers coach Derek Nicholson and the progression of early enrollees Malik Bryant and Bobby Washington. Borregales spoke about working with new punter Dylan Joyce. During the offseason, Borregales mentioned he gained 10-15 pounds and leg strength.
Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald reported on how the second scrimmage went on Saturday. True freshman quarterback Emory Williams and wide receiver Jacolby George were reportedly among the impressive players. George scored two touchdowns in the scrimmage.
Also on Tuesday Miami true freshman center Favour Aire and power forward Danilo Jovanovich entered the transfer portal. Aire had promise but was used sparingly this season and needs to fill out. Miami projects to return starter Norchad Omier in the post with backups A.J. Casey and Anthony Walker and 2023 signee Michael Nwoko.
