Miami Hurricanes News: FB recruiting, practice, Kinchens honored, bats at UVA
The Miami Hurricanes football program has had a busy week of spring practice. Recruiting news, their penultimate week of spring practice and Kam Kinchens with a banner raised to the rafters at the Carol Soffer Indoor practice honoring his 2022 All-American season. The Miami baseball team is at Virginia this weekend.
On Thursday defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, line coaches Joe Salave’a and Jason Taylor and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson spoke to reporters for the first time this spring. Addae and Salave’a are returnees to the 2023 Miami football staff, Nicholson was hired from Cincinnati and Taylor was promoted from being an analyst.
Taylor spoke to reporters on Thursday about his coaching style and was asked why he doesn’t wear his yellow Pro Football Hall of Fame jacket. Addae basically discussed how all of the DBs are developing this spring. Nicholson praised transfer LB Francisco Mauigoa and freshman Bobby Washington.
Salave’a who will primarily be coaching defensive tackles spoke about transfers Thomas Gore and Branson Deen, how Leonard Taylor is working on his mental preparation while out injured this spring and praised freshmen defensive ends Rueben Bain and Jayden Wayne. Expect Bain to receive DT snaps in 2023.
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team will travel to 25-4, seventh-ranked Virginia for a three-game weekend series. Miami and Virginia are tied for first in the ACC Coastal Division with 8-4 records. The Hurricanes are 20-9 overall with five straight wins. Miami is ranked 20th this week in the D1Baseball.Com poll.
Four-star Chaminade-Madonna safety Zaquan Williams had a second projection from a national website for Miami. On Thursday Adam Gorney of Rivals.Com joined On3 from earlier this week with a prediction that Miami will eventually receive a commitment from Patterson. Kicker Abram Murray is the only 2024 Miami commit.
Shehan Jeyarajah of CBS Sports published an article this week examining how much Power Five football programs are spending on recruiting. Private schools including Miami do not have to disclose their spending. Clemson led all ACC schools spending $3,158,941 in 2002 and an average of$1,661,691 from 2017-2022.
