The Miami football program is 12th all-time with 355 players selected in the NFL Draft. Miami is fifth all-time with nine players enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There have been 67 players from Miami selected in the first round of the NFL Draft beginning with Jim Dooley in 1952.

Not every player drafted, even in the first round will be a success. With the dominance the Miami football program had from the early 1980s through the mid-2000s, the Hurricanes were the preeminent program on draft day. Miami had a player selected in the first round of every NFL Draft from 1995 through 2008.

Only seven Miami football alums have been selected in the first round since 2010. From 2010 through 2014 no players from Miami were selected in the first round. The Miami football program is not producing the same elite talent it did for almost 30 years. The volume of Hurricanes drafted has led to several busts.

Seven of the nine Miami Pro Football Hall of Famers were drafted in 1983 or later. The sole exceptions were former Oakland Raiders teammates Ted Hendricks and Jim Otto. The list of Miami busts features some unfamiliar names and others that fans who have followed the Hurricanes for a long time will recognize.

The list goes as far back as the 1950s through the 2000s. More recent high Miami NFL Drafteer that were considered busts either were not drafted highly or at least had multiple-year careers that prevented them from making the list. Miami is expected to return to developing NFL talent under Mario Cristobal.
