William Joseph DT first round 25th overall 2003 NYG

Joseph made an immediate impact with the Miami football program as a Freshmen All-American in 1999. McDougal had 49 tackles, six TFLs, 1.5 sacks, 17 QB hurries, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble in 1999. As a sophomore in 2000, Joseph had 40 tackles, three sacks, and 12 quarterback hurries.

As a junior in 2001, Joseph was part of an elite defense. Joseph was named third-team All-American leading Miami with 19 TFLs and 10 sacks. Joseph returned for his senior season in 2002 finishing with 51 tackles, 16 TFLs, and five sacks while earning first-team All-Big East. The consistency projected a long NFL career.

Joseph played 14 games as a rookie with the Giants recording 15 tackles and one forced fumble. In his second season in 2004, Joseph had 33 tackles, 12 TFLs, and two sacks playing in 15 games with four starts. Joseph played in 10 games in his third season, missing six of the last seven games due to injury.

In 2006 Joseph played all 16 games with three starts and had 21 tackles, five TFLs, and three sacks. Joseph sustained a season-ending injury in the preseason but received a Super Bowl ring following the Giants’ win over New England. Joseph signed with the Raiders during the 2008 offseason.

Joseph played 14 games in two seasons with Oakland recording 15 tackles. Joseph’s career ended after two seasons in Oakland. A first-round pick with only 25 career starts Joseph never reached his potential. That was partially due to injury. Joseph stayed home in college as a Miami Edison alum.
