Miami football Draft busts: Jack Losch1956 NFL 1R 8th overall GB halfback
Jack Losch had an interesting athletic career. Losch played for the Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Maynard Midgets team which won the first Little League World Series in 1947. At Miami Losch starred in football, baseball, and track. Losch played for the Miami football program from 1953 through 1955.
In three seasons with the Hurricanes Losch had 503 yards rushing, averaged 7.9 yards per carry, and added 247 yards receiving while recording 22.5 yards per catch. Losch set Miami football records with a 90-yard run versus Bucknell in 1955 and averaged 9.06 yards per carry during that same season.
Losch was also the top sprinter on the Miami track team for three years and was a catcher on the Miami baseball team. As a halfback, Losch became an All-American. Following his Miami athletic exploits Losch became the first professional athlete to have played in the Little League World Series.
After being selected by the Green Bay Packers with the eighth overall pick in the 1956 NFL Draft, Losch played only one season on the frozen tundra. Losch had 19 carries for 43 yards, seven receptions for 85 yards, and fumbled three times. Losch left the NFL to become an Air Force Pilot and didn’t return due to injuries.
