Gene Trosch DL Kansas City Chiefs 1st round 24th overall 1967
Trosch is only listed as playing with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1967 and 1969. His obituary credits him with playing 12 seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and New Orleans Saints. Trosch earned a championship ring with Kansas City following the Chiefs’ win in Super Bowl IV.
Trosch began his Miami career as an offensive tackle for Miami who later moved to defensive tackle. Miami signed Trosch from Weirton, West Virginia as he matriculated with his Madonna High School teammate Norman Blanchard. Trosch won letters with Miami from 1964 through 1966.
Following his NFL playing career, Trosch also played in the World Football League. That led him to Birmingham and he settled in Alabama when his career ended. During the summers in college Trosch worked on the railroads in West Virginia driving spikes. Trosch was the first Kansas City NFL first-round pick.
The year before Trosch was drafted the Chiefs were the American Football League (now AFC) championships and lost to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I. Kansas City has 10 straight winning seasons from 1965 through 1973. Trosch remains the only Kansas City first-round draftee from Miami.
