Miami Hurricanes News: UVA sweeps bats, Stevenson Draft surge

The Miami Hurricanes baseball team was swept at Virginia this weekend with a 6-3 loss on Sunday. Former Miami cornerback Tyrique Stevenson is surging in NFL Mock Drafts. Pro Football Focus projects Stevenson to be taken with the 50th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Virginia took the first game of the series on Friday 14-2 and put themselves in position for a sweet with a 6-5 victory on Saturday. Miami now has six straight games on the road. The Hurricanes were swept at Wake Forest two weeks ago. The Hurricanes dropped to 20-12 overall and 8-7 ACC.

Miami head coach Gino DiMare stated after the game that “They outplayed us…We didn’t walk a whole lot and we struck out a lot. They are tough at-bats. They are tough outs. They battle, foul pitches off and take you deep into counts. We have to play better on the road.” Miami plays at North Carolina beginning Thursday.

Stevenson and tight end Will Mallory are the two projected 2022 Miami football players projected to be taken in the 2022 NFL Draft. PFF stated about Stevenson “50. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: CB TYRIQUE STEVENSON, MIAMI (FL) The Bucs lose one press cornerback in Sean Murphy-Bunting and then add another in Stevenson. He brings slot versatility that he flashed in his time at Georgia.”

The Miami Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams were honored at the Inter Miami game on Saturday night. Miami was the only school that advanced its men’s and women’s basketball teams to the Elite Eight. The Men’s team is the only one nationally to advance to two straight Elite Eights.

The Miami football team heads into the final week of spring practice when they are back on the Greentree Practice fields on Tuesday. Miami will also practice on Thursday before holding its spring game at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. The spring transfer portal opens after spring practice from April 15-30.
