Miami Hurricanes News: FB practice, Hoops transfer portal updates
The Miami Hurricanes football team will have their penultimate spring practice on Tuesday. Miami basketball coaches Jim Larranaga and Katie Meier met with the media on Monday. Later on Monday Miami senior guard Harlond Beverly entered the transfer portal. Meier provided an update on the Cavinder twins.
Miami held its second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday. Head coach Mario Cristobal is notoriously tight about releasing information after scrimmages. Cristobal did state the defense outplayed the offense on Saturday. The Miami defensive line was particularly stout versus the run per Cristobal.
Larranaga discussed the future of the Miami basketball program, the transfer portal, the impact of the Final Four run in recruiting and the performance by Hurricanes 2023 signee Michael Nwoko in the Nike Hoops summit. Beverly joins 2022 signees Favour Aire and Danilo Jovanovich plus Beverly and Anthony Walker as transfers.
Meier said she expects Haley and Hanna Cavinder to reach a decision this week if they are going to return or move on to the next aspect of their lives. Meier also mentioned that players who walked on senior day are expected to move on. That includes Lola Pendande. Destiny Harden was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury.
Christopher Stock of Inside the U wrote about Cristobal discussing the desire to add more transfers. Cristobal last spoke to reporters following the second scrimmage on Saturday. The second transfer portal window ahead of the 2023 season opens on Saturday and continues through April 30.
Cristobal stated in December that Miami wanted to add defensive tackles and outside wide receivers. Miami added DTs Branson Deen from Purdue and Thomas Gore from Georgia State. Stock quoted Cristobal as stating “I’d like to add pieces everywhere, quite frankly.” Expect Miami to continue being busy in the transfer portal.
The Miami Hurricanes dropped out of the D1Baseball.Com rankings but remained in the top 30 of the other five major polls. Baseball America has Miami with its highest ranking in the polls at 20. Miami is 16th in the Ratings Percentage Index, dropping from 13th following getting swept at Virginia this past weekend.
