Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports reported on Thursday that the Miami football program will receive a June 9 official visit from the top 2024 running back Jerrick Gibson. Gibson is the 25th-ranked prospect, top RB and seventh-ranked player in Florida out of IMG Academy in the 2024 class.

Gibson also has visits scheduled to Georgia on June 2, Tennessee on June 16 and Texas on June 24 per his 247 Sports profile. Wiltfong reported that Gibson will visit Miami the weekend of June 9 after previously scheduling a visit to Alabama for those dates. Two crystal balls including one by Wilftong were logged for Texas in February.

Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Tennessee and Texas are trending the most for Gibson per 247 Sports. The On3 recruiting prediction machine lists Texas a the prohibitive favorite for a commitment from Gibson at 93.3 percent. Florida is second at 2.5 percent with everyone else below one percent.

Gibson thrived as the number-one RB for IMG Academy in 2022. In eight games Gibson ran for 608 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per carry with two 100-yard games and eight touchdowns. Miami signed four players from IMG in the class of 2023. That includes offensive linemen Francis Mauigoa and Antonio Tripp.

Gibson’s .9852 rating is higher than everyone on the 2023 Miami roster except junior defensive tackle Leonard Taylor, freshmen offensive linemen Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola and junior safety James Williams. Willis McGahee, Duke Johnson and Lorenzo Lingard are the only Miami RBs signees rated higher than Gibson.

Miami needs to continue to add depth at RB. Henry Parrish is the only experienced RB on the Miami roster who was healthy in 2022. All five scholarship RBs have eligibility beyond the 2023 season. Don Chaney Jr. and Parrish will be eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft. Neither are expected to take that route.

Depending on how the 2023 season plays out Miami could lose one or two RBs to the transfer portal. If Miami losses more depth at RB that will create opportunities for 2024 signees. Gibson would have an opportunity to make an immediate impact with the Miami football program as a true freshman.
