After recording 94 tackles for loss and 58 sacks during his career his high school career true freshman defensive lineman Rueben Bain is ready to make an impact for the Miami football team. Bain had three sacks in the Miami spring game and tweeted on Sunday “Just a glimpse of what’s to come! I love being a cane 🙌.

Every time Bain plays in a game he is productive. Bain has the versatility to play inside or outside on the DL for the Miami football program. With former NFL defensive lineman Joe Salave’a coaching the tackles and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor the ends, Bain will learn from two extremely experienced DL.

Bain had 3.5 tackles and all three sacks in the first half. Bain was the highest-ranked defensive player in the 2023 Miami class as the 63rd overall prospect, 11th DL and 15th in Florida. Miami had multiple injuries on the DL this spring which allowed Bain and others to receive more playing time than they would have otherwise.

The production that Bain showed throughout the spring and particularly in the spring game on Friday night puts the freshman in a position to challenge for more snaps during training camp in August and ultimately when the season opener on September 1. Bain will help Miami to continue being robust rushing the passer.

Mario Cristobal praised Bain for his performance on Friday nightHe’s extremely disruptive, and he’s very, very tough.” Miami has a recent history of producing elite defensive linemen. Jaelan Phillips and Greg Rousseau were first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. The ceiling for Bain is high over the next three years.

As Bain continues to develop he will have the opportunity to face five-star offensive linemen Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola over the next three seasons. When Miami was winning championships the Greentree Practice Fields were always lauded as creating more competition than actual games.

As Cristobal continues to bring in elite talent, specifically on both sides of the line of scrimmage the competition at Miami for playing time will increase. That will help Bain. The addition of Bain improves the Miami depth on the DL that returns starters Jared Harrison-Hunte, Akheem Mesidor and Leonard Taylor.
