A commitment from three-star safety Isaiah Thomas on Wednesday moved the 2024 Miami football class to 21st in the 247 Sports composite rankings. The commitment from Thomas makes safety the first position Miami has two 2024 commitments. Three-star safety Dylan Day committed to Miami on Sunday.

The 247 Sports composite rankings have Thomas as the 626th prospect, 61st safety and 94th recruit in Florida out of Clearwater Academy International. Thomas is originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson is the highest rated 2024 Miami commit, Day is second and Thomas third.

Miami secondary coach Jahmile Addae led the recruitment for Thomas. The Miami football program hosted Thomas for an unofficial visit this weekend during the Hurricanes’ spring game. Thomas also took unofficial visits to Penn State, Cincinnati, Florida State, Florida, Pittsburgh and Rutgers beginning in November 2022.

Thomas had 27 tackles and one interception in five games as a junior in 2022 before missing the rest of the season with a torn ACL per 247 Sports. At 6’2 and 205 pounds Thomas provides Miami with excellent length at safety. Building safety depth is important with the potential departures of Kamren Kinchens and James Williams.

Thomas is the seventh commitment to Miami in 2024 class. Mario Cristobal and his staff have accomplished the 21st ranked class with Robinson as the only blue-chip commitment for 2024. Miami currently has the sixh ranked class in the ACC. Florida State is first, North Carolina second, Pitt third, Clemson fourth and Wake Forest fifth.

Thomas told multiple outlets his relationships with the Miami coaching staff, particularly Addae was the reason he chose the Hurricanes. Hayes Fawcett of On3 quoted Thomas as saying the Miami coaches plan on using him all over the field. Miami is likely to add more safeties to the 2024 roster.

The Hurricanes are likely to lose either Kinchens or Williams with both potentially entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Miami could add a transfer safety in 2024 to add depth and experience. Expect the secondary to continue to be a point of emphasis for the 2024 class and through the transfer portal.
