(Social) media abuzz with potential Tyler Van Dyke Alabama transfer speculation
News has been trending on Thursday throughout social media and more traditional outlets that Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was reportedly interested in transferring to Alabama. The speculation occurred due to Van Dyke rumored wanting a new name, image and likeness deal.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald was among the traditional media reporters to document that the Miami football program is not making Tyler Van Dyke available to the media. Jackson received no comment when he reached out to legendary agent Drew Rosenhaus who represents Van Dyke.
Among the unsubstantiated rumors are that Van Dyke has spoken with Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Without being in the transfer portal Rees contacting Van Dyke would potentially be tampering. The speculation, judging of Van Dyke and opinions about any potential transfer have been rampant.
Jackson reported via CaneSport that Van Dyke has received substantial NIL offers from other schools. Major Miami benefactor John Ruiz was quoted by Jackson as saying that he is unaware of any unhappiness that Van Dyke has with his NIL deals. Van Dyke signed deals with several businesses including Diaz’s Life Wallet
Alex Donno on Locked on Canes summarized the websites that specifically cover Miami and the varying reports about what has led to Van Dyke considering transferring. Donno speculates that Van Dyke considering a transfer is about more than his NIL deal. Alabama could provide Van Dyke with better opportunities.
One of the things for Van Dyke to weigh is that if he transfers to Alabama he would have to learn his fourth new offense in three years and compete to be the starting QB. At Miami Van Dyke will be the starting QB barring something unexpected happening. Until someone officially comments, everything is currently speculation.
As Jackson points out and Donno discusses in the above video, until head coach Mario Cristobal, Rosenhaus, Van Dyke or someone close to the situation officially states what the current position is everyone is guessing on what Van Dyke is considering or whether he decides to stay at Miami or pursue another opportunity.
The situation will evolve until it is stated Van Dyke is transferring or staying at Miami. Sophomore Jacurri Brown received extensive playing time last season with Van Dyke struggling with injuries. Miami could also pursue an experienced transfer QB if Van Dyke decides to leave. Information should continue to evolve.
