Mario Cristobal setting foundation for consecutive Miami football top 10 classes

One of the reasons Mario Cristobal was hired as head coach for the Miami football program was recruiting. Cristobal and his staff are setting a foundation for consecutive top 10 recruiting classes. Miami signed the seventh-ranked class in the 247 Sports 2023 rankings. Miami currently has the 23rd-ranked 2024 class.

The Miami football program has commitments from seven players in the 2024 Class. Four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson is the only blue-chip commit for Miami in 2024. Miami signed 16 blue-chip prospects in the 2023 class out of 25 signees. Six of the seven 2024 Miami commits occurred in April.

Per Marcus Benjamin of Canes County Miami has not signed consecutive top 10 classes since 2005. Benjamin also noted that Miami has not signed the best recruiting class in their conference (first the Big East and now the ACC) since 2002. Miami signed the best class in the ACC in 2023. per the 247 Sports rankings.

The 2024 Miami class currently ranks sixth in the ACC. Florida State currently has the top 2024 class in the ACC, Wake Forest is second followed by Pittsburgh, North Carolina and Clemson. The other programs have at least 10 2024 commits. Expect Miami to finish much higher in the final 2024 ACC recruiting rankings.

As recruiting continues throughout the spring and into the summer Miami should start receiving commitments from more blue-chip prospects. Benjamin and Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U each wrote about the possibility of Miami signing consecutive top-10 recruiting classes and the recruits the Hurricanes are recruiting heavily.

Miami received commitments from the core of its 2023 class last summer following official visits in June. The Hurricanes are expected to have nine official visits in June per the 247 Sports database. Four of the nine official visits to Miami in June are from blue chip prospects. That includes five-star running back, Jerrick Gibson.

Miami and Texas are leading for Gibson. Three-star offensive tackle Juan Minaya who committed to Miami earlier this month will take his visit to Miami the weekend of June 23. Four of the June official visitors including Gibson are strongly considering Miami. The Hurricanes should continue moving up the 2024 recruiting rankings.
