Miami Hurricanes News: Bats postponed, FB trending for top 10 class?
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team was rained out on Saturday night. Georgia Tech and Miami will play a doubleheader beginning at 10 AM on Sunday. Two other websites that cover Miami posted separate articles recently examining if Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes are trending towards another top 10 recruiting class.
Miami improved to 24-14 overall and 11-8 in the ACC with their win over Georgia Tech on Friday night. Virginia leads the ACC Coastal Division with a 32-7 overall record and is 12-7 in the ACC. Miami was swept in a three-game series at Virginia this season. The Hurricanes are in contention for an NCAA Tournament national seed.
Marcus Benjamin of Canes County and Gaby Urritia of Inside the U both wrote articles this week examining the potential for the Miami football program to sign a top-10 class for the second straight season. Benjamin noted that Miami has not signed consecutive top 10 classes since 2005.
Miami currently has the 23rd-ranked 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Miami signed the seventh-best 2023 class nationally and topped the ACC. Per Benjamin, Miami has not signed the top class in their conference (ACC and Big East) in consecutive seasons since 2002.
The Miami Hurricanes lost a legacy recruit on Saturday when Miami Columbus linebacker Willis McGahee IV committed to Nebraska. McGahee is a four-star prospect and the son of former Miami Heisman Trophy finalist Willis McGahee III. McGahee IV is the 42nd-ranked LB in the 2024 class.
Former Georgia defensive lineman Bear Alexander named the Miami football program one of six finalists where he will transfer. Alexander is trending to USC via most media outlets. Miami recruited Alexander out of IMG Academy in Bradenton in the Class of 2022. Alexander will announce his next destination on Sunday.
Miami is expected to be active in the transfer portal this spring. The spring transfer portal window ends on April 30. A run-stuffing defensive tackle and an outside wide receiver are the priorities for Miami in the transfer portal per Cristobal. Miami has added eight transfers to the 2023 roster.
