The Miami football program is a prohibitive favorite for four-star safety Zaquan Patterson after being named in the top five for the Chaminade-Madonna star. Patterson tweeted a top five of Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Michigan and Ohio State on Sunday. Miami is projected with a 90.3 percent chance for a Patterson commit.

The commitment projection was via On3. Auburn has the second-best chance for a Patterson commitment per On3. Every other program has less than a one percent chance for a Patterson commitment. The On3 composite rankings have Patterson as the 82nd-ranked prospect, sixth safety and 14th recruit in Florida.

Auburn and Miami are the only programs that have received multiple visits from Patterson. Auburn received two Patterson visits with the most recent being the weekend of April 7 per 247 Sports. Patterson has taken five visits to Miami. The most recent visit by Patterson to Miami was the weekend of March 23 per On3.

Patterson has not taken any official visits nor does he have any scheduled yet. The recruitment of Patterson by the Miami football program is being led by secondary coach Jahmile Addae as the primary recruiter and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry as the Hurricanes’ secondary recruiter.

The scouting report on Patterson by Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports states that the 6’0 and185 pound safety is “A hard-hitting defender…but could eventually grow into a three-down linebacker…At his best when he’s asked to come downhill and make stops near the line of scrimmage as he’s a natural body striker…”

Patterson has 138 tackles, seven pass breakups, four sacks and three interceptions in his high school career. All seven of the pass breakups for Patterson occurred in 2022. Patterson spoke to On3 about all five of the college football programs that he tweeted as finalists on Sunday.

“Miami has been there since the beginning. Already having the relationship I had with some of the coaches made it easy for me to love the program. It’s full of great people that want to create better men on and off the field.” Miami is in a good place to receive a commitment from Patterson.
